Detwiler Fire Information
Chief Koerperich at CAL FIRE emphasized this fire is extremely dynamic so they’re reluctant to provide community level information – circumstances on the ground change too quickly. The best places for information are the CAL FIRE site and Mariposa County Sheriff’s site.
If you want to talk with someone, you can talk with CAL FIRE Information Officers at the Mariposa Fairgrounds or you can call 844-MMU-FIRE. The folks on that line are very busy and there’s no message, so you may need to call a few times to get through.
CAL FIRE’s top priorities include Mariposa town and keeping the fire from moving further south and east; the River Canyon/Midpines; Coulterville/Greeley Hill and Catheys Valley. While Chief Koerperich identified specific priorities, those too change as the fire behavior shifts.
Let me know if I can help in any way. So far, our house in Jerseydale is safe and we have electricity (courtesy of a generator), if you need a place to stay or just visit. Stay safe!
One last note – the Sheriff’s Department evacuates people at CAL FIRE’s request, so if ANY emergency personnel tell you to leave your home – don’t wait for a specific uniform – just go and be safe!
