Recognition of Union Contracts – Since the Record of Decision on the Merced River Plan is imminent; the RFP for concessionaire services will be issued soon.  I will advocate that whatever company is selected, whether it’s DNC or another organization, existing contracts with the unions should be honored.  This is important, not only to DNC employees, but also to Mariposa’s economy.  DNC currently employs a number of well paid workers and provides good benefits for them.  Those workers purchase goods and services in Mariposa, so our stores benefit.  Because of the benefits they enjoy, they are not a drain on Mariposa’s resources.  If a new company were to fire the existing employees and hire lower wage workers, Mariposa’s economy would suffer.
